Music Jotter isn't perfect due to the fact it was made by a solo developer. Softwares like these cannot be perfect when made by one person, simply due to the time and investment they require. However, the software lets the user easily notate sheet music, and gives freedom in places other softwares would not (say, it starts with the assumption that a bar has no duration, which allows for a free flow of notes without keeping your mind in a bar-sized box). Of course, if it bothers you, you can apply ruler mode to keep things in place. The instructions are helpful. The interface is friendly, the tools are accessible and easy to use. With that said, there are 2 features that I find are incredibly useful, and make Music Jotter unique: 1. The semi realtime recording is what really sets Music Jotter apart. Recording a music piece without actually recording is such a new concept that has never been done before. So you can record with interruptions and it picks up where you left off. And if there are mistakes while recording in this mode, you can easily edit these mistakes without the hassle of setting up another session. It also records all your nuances, such as arpeggiated chords, and this is a great way to make a piece sound realistic. If I play quarter notes or eighth notes, Music Jotter will be intelligent enough to pick this up. 2. Music Scrubbing is another feature that is fast, easy and intuitive to use. In Music Jotter, you just press Z to open the scrubbing session, move your mouse across the notes and hear them being played back. So easy and useful. Despite the imperfections of this software, the developer keeps the program updated with bug fixing and new features, while adding patches regularly and is open to any kind of helpful criticisms. So if you find any fault, a solution will be arranged soon. Although Music Jotter can stand on it's on, it has a way ahead of it. I was glad to contribute a little to the development by reviewing it for a while, and can only ask you to try it as well.read more
